Bryan & Bethany come visitin’

Fleeing the great white north, long time friends Bryan & Bethany Lindberg of Minneapolis wanted to leave the cold as well as enjoy a respite from raising three rambunctious children, so they flew to see us last Wednesday. Of the highlights during their 5-day stay was watching James, 20, a neighbor boy, [whose constantly in trouble with the law] momentarily freeze in his tracks when introduced to “Judge Bethany and prosecuting attorney Bryan”–all he could muster was “for real?” – you’d have thought it was a setup. It was actually to James’ benefit as Bryan provided him with some solicited advice.
While here, we attended the Yes concert – which I was on assignment to shoot – on the heels of The Who’s Superbowl performance, this was not a good showing for the geriatric set. The next day we visited the Steve McCurry Exhibition in Houston – I’d attended a few days earlier and was further impressed the second time around.
As Houston has more restaurants per capita that any other U.S. city, we also ate alot of very good local cuisine; Pappasitos, Pappadeaux’s, Goode Company, and, of course, customary home cooking. Our last morning found Aunt JeBryan whipping up some delicious buttermilk pancakes from scratch.
Prior to their arrival, Theresa had concerns whether our dogs; Duke (below), Sandy and Rasta (above) would be an asset or liability – we didn’t want any chaos. Au contraire, our dogs adopted new owners – the little traitors!
All-n-all we kept the pace moderate and I think they succeeded in both thawing-out and decompressing while here – and it was good to see them. -R-
