We’ve been interested in doing a fine art quality, coffee table book of chefs for quite a while and decided that time is now. Out of curiosity, we wanted to see what art books on chefs could be found online–we found nothing. We were certain that the heightened popularity from reality shows, high-traffic, food based websites, and Michelin and Yelp ratings, would have motivated someone to produce an art book–not according to Google or Amazon. Understand we're talking about a classic, coffee table quality volume that explores a chef in detail. Mostly we came across restaurant resource directories or recipe collections masquerading as art books hawked by high profile chefs.The fact that we found nothing meeting our requirements is inconsequential. We have a clear vision and are excited about the natural collaboration that will fuel the creative process.
We want to create a coffee-table quality, fine art book, featuring chefs. Our creative concept blends classic imagery with compelling writing, wrapped in minimalist design. Like many great recipes, we’ll use the finest ingedients, arranged and prepared in a way that makes the end result special. We will feature the chefs themselves–in detail–revealing the essence of their motivations, influences, direction and passions. The conclusion to each chefs exposé will reveal a characteristic recipe with their signature technique. As a way to describe this, our tagline might read… “it’s about who they are, not what they do.” or… “with focus on the culinary artist, not just the art.”

This is not a commissioned gig, we love food as well as baking and cooking which heightens our respect for these talented chefs, and is part of our interest in undertaking this project. Moreover, we come steeped in a musical background both as previously gigging musicians, as well as designer/photographers currently working in the industry. In many ways, food and music are similar. There are superiorly talented unknowns–in greater numbers than the names we all know. The point is, there is a lot of potential chefs in this city. We want to share those stories of the supremely talented chefs, known or not.
With our branding experience, we're developing a publishing and marketing plan, and we'd like to consider some charitable organizations as part of the mix. Let us know your thoughts.
Philosophically, we refer to working inside-out, sittin' forward. Meaning, we choose to pursue those things of interest, aggressively.
